Chocolat! St Ives - From Little Acorns - Oak Trees Grow

Well not so much oak trees, but Glass Trees! Our beautiful ‘petite maison du chocolat’ in The Digey, St. Ives was originally our gift shop called ‘The Glass Tree’ ( but that’s another story…! ) Anyway, after 4 very successful years here selling gifts & home accessories , we finally admitted that we needed to move to a bigger premises, and with a touch of sentimental sadness in Jan 2008 we moved ‘The Glass Tree’ Gift shop to our new address in Fore Street, St. Ives where we settled very happily and still continue to sell our lovely cards, giftware & Pilgrim jewellery ( see our new website in 2009 ) www.theglasstree.co.uk

And so evolved an exciting opportunity to create another dream and fill our pretty Digey shop with wonderful & inviting things…….But what?

The idea for Chocolat! St. Ives began one Saturday afternoon in December 2007 when we were discussing with friends our approaching move to Fore St., and what we could fill our soon to be ‘empty’ shop with. It had to be something innovative and fashionable whilst still being unique, and also, because presentation is so important to us, great packaging was essential. Then there’s the need for continuous new & imaginative ideas and most importantly something that would appeal to everyone, young and old!

An old fashioned sweet shop had been a possibility at an early stage, but we knew it wasn’t exciting enough “No, not sweets” a friend said……..and then, with a hint of contentment in her voice…. “Chocolate” she sighed.

Still laughing in agreement I went upstairs to fetch something, and there on the table was a video of a film that we’d borrowed weeks before and still hadn’t had the time to watch. That film of course was ‘Chocolat’, and in that instance I smiled as I knew the journey for Chocolat! St. Ives had just begun.

Needless to say we watched the video that very night!!!
